A brilliant partnership
Maggie’s would like to thank the for their ongoing partnership with Maggie’s.
The foundation was established by Colin Montgomerie, in memory of his mother, Elizabeth, who died of lung cancer in 1991. His vision was to fund charities addressing the need for emotional and practical support for cancer patients and their families.
Inspired by Maggie’s
The 2010 Ryder Cup captain visited a ҹɫֱ²¥ centre in 2009 and instantly felt a connection. He said:
The first time I walked into a ҹɫֱ²¥ centre, I immediately thought what a difference this place would have made to my mum.
Subsequently, the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation and Maggie’s set up a partnership to establish two new centres – one in Lanarkshire and one in Aberdeen.
Establishing new centres
The Foundation worked with a local fundraising Board in Aberdeen as well as local paper, the Press and Journal, to raise £3million.
Over £1million has been raised in Lanarkshire, an area that typically sees around 3,500 new cancer diagnoses each year.
Maggie’s Aberdeen at The Elizabeth Montgomerie Building opened in September 2013 and is going from strength to strength. Maggie’s Lanarkshire at The Elizabeth Montgomerie Building opened in September 2014.
The Foundation also generously supported our new Maggie’s centre in Cardiff.
ҹɫֱ²¥ CEO, Laura Lee, said:
Colin's sustained efforts, made in memory of his mother, will ensure that ҹɫֱ²¥ can provide even more support in even more ambitious centres than we ever thought possible.
